From Actor to Filmmaker

 Kangana Ranaut’s Directorial Debut

Kangana Ranaut expanded her career by

stepping into the director’s shoes with the 2019 film Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Initially known for her bold and powerful roles on screen, this transition to directing marked a significant evolution in her journey in the film industry.

Her directorial debut, co-directed with Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi, brought forth the story of Rani Lakshmi Bai, a historic figure known for her bravery and leadership during India’s first war of independence. Manikarnika allowed Kangana to showcase her talents beyond acting, as she was deeply involved in the film's creative process, including the script, production, and direction.

Kangana’s upcoming film Emergency takes her journey a step further. This project is entirely helmed by her, both as a director and lead actor. Set during the 1975 Indian Emergency, it showcases the political and societal upheavals of that era. The film has already gained attention for its bold subject matter and Kangana’s portrayal of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Through her journey from actor to filmmaker, Kangana Ranaut continues to push boundaries, proving herself as a multi-talented powerhouse in Bollywood.
